A God for the Exhausted

If I were writing God For Us in 2021, I would have to add another chapter: A God for the Exhausted. Dear ones, this is a chapter that could describe most of us these days.

As I listen to people process the inner workings of their hearts, I keep hearing, “I’m exhausted. I’m running on fumes. I’ve got nothing left to give.”

We have been through so much in the last 12 months. We have been anxious and afraid. We have wept and grieved. We have been angry. We have been asked to do too much.

We are tired.

Who is God to you when you are exhausted? Who is God to your weary heart?

The Bible gently answers this question for us. He is a Good Shepherd.

It is my usual practice to write devotional blogs during the Lenten season. I love to take the time to pause, slow down and reflect over the beautiful heart of our Savior. I still want to do that, but I have to admit, I am tired too.

So, I want to invite you to join me every Friday during Lent in a different venue. We’ll still be slowing down. We’ll still be reflecting. But this time, we’ll be doing that together—face to face. I’ll be live on Facebook, Fridays at noon (EST). You can join me on my author page: Abby Ross Hutto. I look forward to seeing you there.

Together, we will take some time to look intently at this Shepherd’s heart for us.

If your heart is weary, if you feel frayed at the edges, if you are exhausted, there is rest for your soul in the presence of the Shepherd. Let’s seek him out together.
